Why is Hyaluronic Acid So Popular?

Dec 4, 2017 7:58:26 PM

Why is Hyaluronic acid so poplular

Hyaluronic Acid has been touted as one of the most effective ingredients used in skin care. It’s anti-aging and hydrating qualities continue to rank this ingredient high because of it’s natural ability to offer long lasting moisture. As trends change, Hyaluronic Acid continually wins the popularity contest. Let’s find out what makes it so popular.

1) What is Hyaluronic Acid? It is a molecule naturally found in the skin which has the incredible ability to retain moisture. It’s actually considered a Natural Humectant, which means it draws moisture from the air to the skin. HA has the ability to hold 1000x it's weight in water making it extremely effective for intense hydration for more plump, firm skin.

2) Why is hyaluronic acid so effective? Dry/ dehydrated skin is the main cause of wrinkles and aging. So it makes sense that hyaluronic acid is a rock star for all skin types because of the ability continually hydrate and create a protective barrier for the skin.

3) What’s the relationship between Hyaluronic Acid and Sodium Hyaluronte?  Sodium Hyaluronte is the salt form of Hyaluronic Acid that also has the ability to hold 1000x it’s weight in water. The main difference between the two is that it boasts a smaller molecular weight making it easier to penetrate the skin cell and do its job.

Topical products containing HA and Sodium Hyaluonte are extremely effective in the skin care war against aging by continually restoring and retaining the skin’s plumpness and hydration. Also used in injectable, the dermis can retain hydration and firmness for several months.

The good news is there are many foods you may already be eating that have a positive impact on your skin and if you stick to them, you will have brighter, firmer more radiant skin. Here’s a glimpse of just a few of the most impactful foods for healthy skin according to activebeat:

1) Blueberries – Among many benefits, this super food is full of antioxidants which help keep skin clear of acne and blotches and adds a healthy glow.

2) Spinach – A great source of magnesium and omega 3 fatty acids, spinach is a great choice for brighter, radiant skin.

3) Dark Chocolate –Believe it or not, dark chocolate helps protect the skin from sun spots and aids in hydration, but make sure you are choosing chocolate with at least 60% cocoa.

4) Salmon – Loaded with omega 3’s, salmon helps keep fine lines and wrinkles away.

5) Berries – Like, blueberries; raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries are packed with Vitamin C which helps keep the collagen in our skin healthy.

6) Avocados- Rich in Vitamin A, D and E, avocados have excellent anti-aging qualities.

It’s Time to Man Up

Nov 16, 2017 11:33:08 AM

Skin care is talked about everywhere, all the time, usually in reference to women. But men have skin care concerns too. Here are the top five skin concerns for men and how they can be helped.

men's Skin Care

1)  Broken Capillaries – According to Dermatology Review, broken capillaries “are tiny and delicate veins just under the skin that are responsible for the blood circulation in the face. When the walls of these veins narrow and widen suddenly, breakage may occur. Some of these ruptured blood vessels cannot repair themselves or go back to their normal thickness without some kind of treatment. Spider veins can be found around the nose, cheeks and mouth, on the neck, as well as the upper chest and legs.” Be careful not to scrub too vigorously or the condition can worsen. Also consider a cleanser with salicylic acid in it to keep dead skin cells from building up.

2)  Large Pores – Perhaps the most common complaint from men is pore size, especially around the nose. Cleansing daily with help reduce the build up of dead skin cells that commonly cause large pores. Cleansing will help with existing break outs too.

3)  Black Heads – According to Healthline, “Blackheads form when a clog or plug develops in the opening of hair follicles in your skin. Each follicle contains one hair and a sebaceous gland that produces oil. This oil, called sebum, helps keep your skin soft. Dead skin cells and oils collect in the opening to the skin follicle, producing a bump called a comedo. If the skin over the bump stays closed, the bump is called a whitehead. When the skin over the bump opens, exposure to the air causes it to look black and a blackhead forms.” Similar to the fix for large pores, consider a daily cleanser, to remove skin toxins and control sebum.

4)  Sensitive Skin from Shaving - Daily shaving can create sensitve irritated skin. Thalgomen After Shave Balm formula is instantly absorbed and its soothing and repairing active ingredients effectively ease skin irritations caused by shaving. The skin feels comfortable and supple with a pleasant feeling of lasting freshness.

5)  Aging – General sagging and lifeless looking skin happens to men just as much as women but there are products which truly do help fight the signs of intrinsic aging. Thalgo Men Regenrating Cream  helps to preserve youthful, energized skin while combatting signs of aging. The skin is visibly smoother, wrinkles are reduced; the signs of aging and fatigue fade rapidly.

Thalgo Marine Skin Care has devoted over 50 years to the research and formulation of skin care produts for men and women that truly work and are environmentally safe. For more information visit

7 Ways to Take the OW Out of Waxing

Oct 28, 2017 10:45:39 AM

How to take the OW out of waxing

For many, even the thought of waxing can trigger a cold sweat. The sting, the pain and the redness historically make this one of the least favorite spa services. But don’t worry, there are some proven ways to make waxing less painful and they actually work.

1) Try a pain reliever 30 minutes before your wax service. Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen will help dull the pain during your waxing service.

2) Apply an over the counter numbing cream before you leave the house. There are countless on the market. Most all contain lidocaine or a form of it. They work well to numb the skin.

3) Ice ice baby… Apply some ice before waxing to numb the area, it will soothe the skin and make it less painful during and after the treatment.

4) Exfoliate the area before getting waxed. It will help the hair release more easily causing less pain.

5) Let the hair grow to about ¼ inch before waxing (excluding brows obviously). If it’s shorter it won’t be waxed effectively. If it’s any longer, it will be extra painful.

6) Apply a rose water toner after waxing, or ask your esthetician to apply something similar to help remove the sting.

7) When all else fails, think happy thoughts. Distraction really works, go to your happy place and it will be over before you know it.

Whatever you do, don’t’ give up on waxing. The more you wax the less it hurts and it's a great way to stay hair-free longer. Thalgo Marine Skincare is happy to offer a few products that help take the OW – and the red, out of waxing.

Thalgo Biodepyl Anti-Regrowth Solution Sensitive Areas is a gel specially formulated for sensitive areas; helps delay regrowth and works significantly on all parameters (density, length) of hair after waxing and depilation. Delicate areas are soothed and stay smooth for a longer period of time.

Thalgo Biodepyl Targets Ingrown Hairs backs up the anti-regrowth action of Thalgo Biodépyl Anti-Regrowth Solution, while preventing hair regrowth beneath the skin. The non-oily formula leaves the skin supple and fresh.

why dropping 1 habit will immediately improve your skin

In the grand scheme of things, the essence of good skin care comes down to one thing and it’s not what you might think. It’s not what you put on your face, or what you don’t. It’s not about expensive creams and serums, (although they do really help the cause). If you want to see a great improvement in your skin, and you want to see it soon, dropping one habit will immediately help.

Stop Stressing. It’s that simple. In a recent post: Stress and Your Skin, Why You Have to Stop Stressing Now, we discussed the impact that stress has on our skin and it bears repeating:

“Stress can cause sleeplessness, and as such, the skin does not repair itself at night as it should. The result can be dull, tired looking skin, increased fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness under the eyes and even breakouts.”

Assuming you are now completely convinced to stop stressing and eliminate all the stressors in your life (stop rolling your eyes), then it’s time to begin thinking about a skin care regimen to compliment your newly-healthy skin.

Here are some tips to help you put together a skin care regimen:

!) Take it slow – Spend time researching and talking to people who know skin such as your esthetician or dermatologist who can help determine what your skin needs.

2) Read the Label – When a product boasts an effective ingredient, such as hyaluronic acid or peptides, be sure these are among the top 5 ingredients or they will not likely have a big impact.

3) Give products time to work – Once you take the time to determine the products that are best for you, be patient. Give products time to do what they say they will. Some products can take up to 6-8 weeks before you see a difference.

The bottom line, stress can take its toll on our health and our skin as well. We must be as diligent as possible in taking care of ourselves to limit the amount of stress we are exposed to.

4 Things Really Smart People Do

Really smart people are generally really busy people who often forget to take care of themselves and here are 4 things that they refuse to do.

1)     Sleep -  We all need sleep in order to function, to help our minds and our bodies heal. But sleep is not always easy to obtain. It is however critical for our bodies and lack of sleep for extended periods of time can actually take years off our lives. To find out how much sleep your body requires and more about the effects from not sleeping enough, check out this article by the Cleveland Clinic.

2)     Eat -  Busy, successful, on-the-go people are often the worst eaters. They often eat meals on the run and the options for getting healthy food, with the nutrients you need while on the road are few. The good news is, according to, there are a few good options.

3)     Exercise – Really smart people know they need to exercise, but as it’s become clear, they do not have a lot of free time. Like sleep, exercise is a must. We need it to maintain our health, but it’s also a great stress reliever. The Mayo Clinic has published countless articles on the benefits and the necessity of exercise. And remember, exercise is a natural energy boost so you can get even more out of every day.

4)     Take care of their skin-  When we are too tired to take care of our skin, it becomes painfully obvious and it’s tough to camouflage. Skin that is poorly cared for is dull, lifeless, congested, intensely wrinkled and appears much older than it should. Starting a skin care regimen can seem daunting, but our recent post how great skin can improve your luck will prove that it really is simple and the results can be extremely positive.

Why the sea is more important than you think

You may have heard it before:  spending time in sea water, has healing effects. The salt content in the sea has curative properties which have a positive and healing effect on skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. It can also help nasal passages stay clear of bacteria lessening the occurrence and duration of sinus conditions and infections. Clear sinuses make way for easier breathing and the sea is known to help improve general respiratory function as well. If you live by the sea, visit often, if you don’t, consider products containing sea water not just for health but for beauty as well.

For more than 50 years, THALGO has explored the sea depths and identified specific seaweeds with anti-aging, slimming, detoxifying, rebalancing, hydrating and soothing properties.

As noted in recent post,” Algae have a very high concentration of mineral elements (iodine, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, cobalt, iron, fluoride, etc.) and also contain almost every vitamin and amino acid. Thanks to this particularly rich composition, algae boast antiviral as well as antibacterial qualities. They are even used to heal rheumatism and regulate the thyroid gland.”

Our patented Micronized Marine Algae (MMA) provides outstanding results in the medical treatment of conditions such as rheumatism, arthritis and skin disorders. Due to a unique manufacturing process, the cell walls of the marine algae are literally exploded to release the active inner ingredients. The micro-particles of the resulting powder ensure remarkable skin penetration.

If you are interested in finding out what seawater can do for you, check out Thalgo L’Oceane Pure Seawater. Made from 100% living seawater, Thalgo L'Oceane is a detoxifying and revitalizing aid in the battle against aging. For anyone concerned with dehydration, skin dryness, overwork, stress, loss of energy, fatigue and preparation for physical exercise, Thalgo L'Oceane hydrates and revitalizes the body and is a natural anti-stressor.

After Summer Skin

Aug 28, 2017 6:00:04 PM

Skin Care after summer

As Summer begins to fade away and temperatures begin to fall, you may not notice the effects that the colder temps have on your skin. Getting the kids back to school and weather proofing the pool can be all-consuming. When life calms down, here are some simple ways to rehydrate your skin after summer:

1)    Exfoliate:

Summer sun, sweat, sand, and chlorine, may have left your skin feeling dry, flaky, and dehydrated. Start the fall season with a thorough exfoliation of your face and body to help to shed dead dehydrated post-summer skin. Exfoliation also helps you skin absorb products more readily.

 2)    Cleanse:

As temps drop it’s time to consider a creamier, gentler, non-clogging cleanser for added moisture and protection.

 3)    Hydrate and moisturize:

When the weather turns colder, it’s your cue to add more emollient products to your daily skin care regimen. The drop in humidity can lead to dehydrated inflamed skin.

Here are a few tips that can help:

  • Lay it on thick – Your skin needs a stronger, creamier barrier in the colder months. Use a thicker, richer moisturizer to liven up dehydrated cells and maintain soft skin all year long.

  • Consider a serum-Applying a serum under your moisturizer is an excellent way to boost hydration and protect the skin from the cold.

  • Turn on your humidifier – Increasing the humidity in your home or office is an excellent way to infuse moisture giving your skin relief from the dry climate heaters can cause.

  • Hydrate your diet – On top of the recommended 8 (8oz) glasses of water per day, hydrating body tissues from the inside out is another excellent way to increase moisture levels. Try leafy greens, water-rich fruits, and healthy fats and  avoid dehydrating substances such as alcohol and caffeine. Liquid Collagen is another excellent way to nourish the skin from within and help it to become more firm and plump.

Saying goodbye to summer doesn’t have to mean you are saying hello to dry skin. Hydration can be simple and it doesn’t have to break the bank. For more Skin Care Tips check out the blog at

Why Dieting Doesn't Work

Aug 10, 2017 4:37:49 PM

why diest dont work

If you have ever been unhappy with your weight and have tried to diet, this statement may come as a surprise: Dieting Doesn’t Work. You may already know this in your subconscious or maybe you still believe that it works, but the reality is that it doesn’t. The real question is why. Here are a few reasons:

1)    Your diet is too Strict: When you deprive yourself while dieting, even if you do lose weight, the chances are good that you will binge once you return to your normal eating habits and gain some or even all of the weight back.

2)    Your diet is unhealthy: Depriving yourself of too many calories is not only unhealthy, it is also counter productive. Consuming fewer than the number of calories that your body needs will put you in “starvation mode.” Your body will then hold on to it’s weight and instead of losing weight you will lose muscle. Make sure you are taking in enough calories to keep a healthy metabolism.

3)    Your diet is too hard: We all know that diets are no fun. And deprivation can make us irritable and feisty thus limiting our success as we “fall off the wagon” again and again. A proper eating plan should not deprive you of everything that you love. But you will need to modify and limit yourself to smaller portions of the goodies. Consider modifying. Eat what you love but eat less and focus the majority of you diet on the good stuff (veggies and fruits).

So if it’s true that dieting doesn’t work. What does? According to mindful eating is the answer. Although it may sound easy enough, it takes practice. “Mindfulness helps us better understand how full we are and how many calories we have consumed.” Spending a few minutes of quiet before reaching for the potato chips may be a great first step to eating less. And listening to your body’s cues helps too. This requires shutting down the phone, email and TV when you are eating so that you can concentrate on how you are actually feeling. No one likes to feel hungry but if you eat until you are no longer hungry instead of eating until you are full you will consume far fewer calories per day and this will certainly help you achieve your optimum weight.  And believe it or not, your body and your metabolism have more of an effect on your weight maintenance than just willpower according to the Huffington post, so don’t be so hard on yourself.

Thalgousa carries a line of nutritional products that are key to helping you reach your optimal weight in a healthy way. And while you are browsing, sign up for our newsletter!

3 Secrets to Improving Your Cellulite

Jul 24, 2017 8:46:32 PM

Thalgo cellulite care

Cellulite is a condition that produces a dimpled appearance or orange peel effect on the surface of the skin. It is caused by a layer of fat under the skin that pushes against the connective tissue and beings to bulge. This bulging causes the unsightly appearance that is most commonly seen on the thighs and the buttocks. According to, “the cosmetic condition affects nearly 90% of women at some point during their lives, even women who are otherwise slender and fit.” Based on that number the odds of escaping cellulite are not in our favor but there are a few remedies that are considered effective.

1)    Creams or lotions: believe it or not, there are creams on the market that have proven results in helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It sounds like it’s too good to be true but clinical studies don’t lie. Take a look at Thalgo’s Intensive Correcting Cream for example, which fights and corrects the compacted (grade 3) cellulite-generating process at its source. This highly active cream features Thalgo-exclusive Oxy Active technology to help disperse pronounced cellulite. The skin’s resistance to unsightly dimples is reinforced, resulting in visibly smoother-looking skin.

2)    Scrubs: Although there are many options here, the one that has gotten the most positive response is the coffee scrub.  According to Women’s Health Magazine, “the caffeine and antioxidants in coffee are moderately effective to mitigate the appearance of cellulite in the short term. As a stimulant, the caffeine in coffee dilates blood vessels, which temporarily tones and tightens tissue. Plus, it increases circulation and reduces water retention, both of which may also help smooth the rumpled look of cellulite. The antioxidants in coffee may help to release toxins, which is not only helpful for cellulite, but for healthy skin in general.”

3)    Dry Brushing: Although it doesn’t sound convincing, the dry brushing technique has been a popular way to treat cellulite for awhile. explains: “In essence, dry brushing is a combination of exfoliation and massage that involves taking (brace yourselves) a dry brush and moving it over your body in slow, circular motions two to three times a week. The firm bristles of the brush give your skin a thorough exfoliation while the pressure helps to stimulate your circulation and, yep, lymphatic drainage, which in turn is supposed to help the body eliminate toxins.” While the the only investment here is time and a brush, beware that this technique can be rough on the skin, causing it to peel. Be sure to moisturize routinely to prevent this as much as possible. While the jury is still out on the effectiveness of dry brushing, one thing is for sure, your brushed body will surely be softer.

top 10 mistakes people make when choosing skin care

Making the decision to take care of your skin or ramp up your current skin care regimen is a big one. Determining what products to buy can be an even bigger decision. But before you stress, consider these 10 mistakes that are commonly made so you won’t make them yourself:

1)  Read the label – if you know what your skin needs you are well ahead of the curve. If you don’t know, you will want to read the label to determine which active ingredients are used in the product you are considering. If the active ingredient isn’t among the top three in the list, then they won’t be effective for your skin.

2)  Don’t choose too many products – the process of creating a skin care regimen can be overwhelming but you really only need a few items to get started: cleanser, exfoliator, moisturizer, sunscreen. As your skin ages or you being to see wrinkles, you may want to add and eye cream.

3)  Skip products that multi-task – When skin care products serve more than one purpose, 2 things generally happen. 1 – key active ingredients are compromised and thus not as effective, 2 – multi-tasking products can cause skin irritation.

4)  Don’t forget about sleep, diet and stress – how much you sleep, what you eat and daily stress levels can have an enormous impact on your skin. Be sure to consider this when looking for results from the products you choose.

5)  Order of application – be sure to apply your skin care products by those that are thinnest to those that are thickest. For instance, you would want to apply your anti-oxidant or your concentrate first, then your cream and finally your eye cream.

6)  Give products time to work – we live in the age of instant gratification. We want it all and we want it now. But where skin care is concerned, it’s best to take the wait and see approach. Give your products time to make a positive difference in your skin. In most cases, you should start to see a difference after 4 weeks. On the other had, if you have been using a product for several weeks and don’t see any change for the better, it may not be the right product for you.

7)  Choosing products that aren’t appropriate for your skin type – be sure to look for products that target your age group (your actual age and not the one you tell people). If you are using something that’s meant to be for someone half your age, chances are you won’t get a lot of great results. The alternate is true for products meant for skin much older.

8)  Over stimulation of the skin – Some products may be too much for your skin type. Specifically, if your skin leans towards the sensitive side, applying aggressive products or any product too aggressively can over stimulate the skin and cause more damage than good. Be careful with your face, it’s the only one you’ve got.

9)  Don’t skip the cleanser – it is imperative that you cleanse your skin at least every night and for some, in the morning as well. If you have dry skin, you can skip the morning cleanse. Failing to remove the day’s debris can clog pores, exacerbate acne and literally age you.

10)  Over or under exfoliating – As you age it’s important to regularly exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells and support new cell growth. Choose an exfoliator that’s appropriate for your skin and promise yourself to use it regularly (as directed). More is not more when it comes to exfoliating. You can over do it by being too aggressive during application or by applying too often. It’s best to start slow and work your way up.

There are countless ways that people today are trying to look younger. From topical products, facial masks and peels, to Injections, infusions, and even facelifts. All are effective in some way. But how far is too far when it comes to looking younger?

Looking younger

The debate has raged on for what seems like forever. Some say looking younger should start and end naturally with using good products, eating well and exercising. Others believe that a regular visit to the dermatologist or plastic surgeon is the perfect way to keep wrinkles way. The truth is that looking younger is directly relational to how you feel. And while it may be enough for some to feel young, others need that feeling to be reflected in their appearance.

For those who want to look younger without breaking the bank. Here are a few ways you can look younger on a budget:

1)  Cleanse, moisturize and exfoliate:  Spend time on your skin every day. Daily cleansing and moisturizing cannot be skipped. Choose a moisturizer that’s age appropriate. What’s good for your skin in your 20’s will not be enough in your 40’s. On a weekly basis, it’s important to exfoliate. Exfoliation helps the cell turnover process which slows with age. Skin that’s regularly exfoliated will look healthy and radiant.

2)  Include a Serum:  Daily moisturizer isn’t always enough. Most skin needs a boost of active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, peptides, or collagen to help stimulate the production of Collagen and Elastin. Ask your esthetician to suggest one that’s appropriate for your age and skin.

3)  Don’t Skip the Eye Cream: It’s so important to keep the skin around the eyes moisturized. A good eye cream or gel will help fill fine lines and wrinkles, reduce puffiness and dark circles and help your eyes to look more open and awake.

4)  Eat well and exercise:  You have heard it countless times before: you are what you eat. It’s really true. Eat well and drink plenty of water and your skin will have a healthy natural glow. Collagen supplements or liquid collagen are another way to help the body produce more collagen and promote healthy skin.

How far you go in your effort to look younger is entirely up to you. How you look and feel can directly impact your confidence so only you can decide how much is too much. Consider trying these lower budget options first before you dive into the deep end. Growing old is a privilege but you still want to look like yourself while getting there. Over doing the injections may have you looking like someone you are not. Your doctor can help you find that balance.

Consider trying these lower budget options first before you dive into the deep end. Gowing old is a priviledge but you still want to look like yourself while getting there. Overdoing the injections may have you looking like someone you are not. Your doctor can help you find that balance if this is the path you choose.

skin care advice

The difference between poor skin care advice and good skin care advice can be vast. There is so much information available now at the click of a button that you can literally google your way through brain surgery. The same is true for your skin. You can google the best skin care products, the best masks and the best devices for anti-aging. But should you?

Last year in our blog, What Your Esthetician Doesn’t Want You to Know About Skin Care, we touched on some examples of poor skin care advice and why it can be dangerous. Along those lines there are things that your esthetician is NOT going to share with you. Why? Because while she wants what’s best for you, she doesn’t want to offend or deter your curiosity. But here’s what she’s really thinking:

1)    The internet is not always right – What?! You mean not everything I read and learn on the internet is correct? It’s true. And while it’s the quickest and easiest way to answer some of our most burning questions, the reality is that there is information about skin care that could actually cause harm.

2)    Your BFF is not always right – It’s not all her fault, she is just trying to help, but she may not know the difference between a suggestion from a colleague or something she read in a magazine.

3 Reasons for You to Consider Enzymes

Jun 21, 2017 1:49:53 PM

3 reasons to consider enzymes

Did you know that the body contains more than 50,000 different enzymes responsible for countless functions of the body including the regulation of inflammation? When part of the skin or body becomes inflamed, enzymes help to provide healing and protection by reducing swelling and breaking down plasma in traumatized areas. Enzymes are also effective in treating the skin. Here are 3 reasons for you to consider using them:

1) Exfoliation  - The outer layer of the skin is comprised mostly of dead skin cells also known as keratin proteins. These skin cells shed naturally every day allowing the skin to look more youthful and smooth. As we age however, this cell turnover process slows and the skin can begin to look dull and aged. Enzymes can be a great source for exfoliation and more gentle than chemical peels or microdermabrasion.

2) Anti-inflammation -  As earlier mentioned, Enzymes already existent in the body to regulate the inflammation that can be the result from a myriad of bodily inadequacies. The good news is enzyme therapy can help to modulate and control inflammation and even circulatory problems. For more information on this go to

3) Protection against sun damage – Enzymes have the ability to protect the skin from free radicals caused by environmental pollution as well as the sun.

While enzymes may seem like the answer to many of the skin’s needs, they also have a downside. Sensitive to temperature and light, they must be stored in a cool, dry place. If they are exposed to extreme heat or temperatures, they can can become unstable and thus ineffective.

Thalgo is pleased to offer the MCeutic Cosmeceutical Skin Care Range, with cleansers, moisturizers and even a take home peel which utilize enzymes and have proven results to help keep your skin looking radiant and healthy.

why skincare ingredients fail

When products with good skin care ingredients like Hyaluronic Acid, Collagen, Retinol and Vitamin C fail we lose confidence and shy away from future spending on products we feel don’t work. This makes sense, why would we pay large amounts of money for something that doesn’t work? But is the product to blame or is it user error? Maybe both? Here are some reasons why the top skin care products fail:

1) Over Exfoliating – While it can have positive results, over exfoliating can cause the skin to be irritated, dry, sensitive and red. It can also cause broken blood vessels. Be sure to be gentle when exfoliating and use a product that will exfoliate without compromising the skin barrier. Thalgo has a gentle yet effective exfoliator perfect for even sensitive skin. It will nourish the skin and give it the healthy glow that it’s meant to have.

2) Under Cleansing – Basically the opposite of over exfoliating. Failing to cleanse the skin every night can lead to acne, clogged pores and premature aging. Gently cleanse the skin 1-2 times per day. Before bed for sure. Failing to cleanse can actually cause premature aging. If cleansing and toning is too much, try Thalgo Micellar Cleansing Water. With Sève Bleue from the Oceans, it removes make-up as it cleanses and tones the face and eyes in a single step. Suitable for all skin types, even the most sensitive. No sticky residue and it’s scent free.

3) Stress – Worrying or stressing can have more than just a negative effect on your skin. It can also cause hair loss and weak brittle nails. Stress can also cause break outs making the skin more sensitive and prone to acne. Exercise, meditate, and practice yoga to help reverse the signs of stress and begin living a stress free life.

4) Lack of Sleep – The negative effects of lack of sleep are many. Sleep gives the body a chance to repair the damage caused by the day and helps the body heal itself. There are many helpful resources about sleep and the benefits it has to your health.

5) Poor Diet – Nothing will make your skin look worse than feeding your body with junk. Everything we eat has an effect on our health and also our skin. Choose products you would be proud to feed your children. Stay away from food filled with trans fats and sugar. Nourish your body and your skin with foods that are natural and clean with no preservatives.

6) Skipping Sun Care – Even the best ingredients and the best skin care regimen are no match for unprotected skin that is exposed to the sun. In fact, that healthy glow you may think you are achieving is actually causing premature aging and permanent damage. Make no mistake, the most expensive and best skin care ingredients cannot do their job if you are not protecting your skin from the sun. Daily sunscreen is a must even when the skies are grey.

finding a great esthetician

Finding a good doctor, nail tech, mechanic, trainer, etc. is like finding a great pair of jeans; almost impossible, but once you have them you want to hold on to them for dear life. Finding a great esthetician is just the same. It’s no cake walk to find someone with whom to entrust your face. Your skin has the greatest impact on your first impression to others, your business meetings, first dates and even your relationships. it plays a huge role in your self confidence too. So if you are ready to commit to good skin care, here are 5 things to look for in a great esthetician:

1) Communicate – Your esthetician must have good communication skills. This is a crucial part of building a relationship and one that cannot be compromised. You need to feel comfortable around her and you need to establish trust.

2) Listen – When you are discussing your skin care concerns, you want your esty to actively listen to you. This is a must. She needs to be able to consider your concerns and devise a plan in order to help you achieve your skin care goals.

3) Practice Professionalism – This one can be tough. You want someone who makes you feel relaxed but its professional as well. This will require boundaries for you both and if you get too close she might lose focus on your needs.

4) Show Passion – It is imperative that your esthetician is passionate about what she does. Is she just dialing it in or is she truly excited to help you with your skin?

5) Educate – Part of your appointment should always involve education. You should feel more informed when you leave than when you arrive. It’s the estheticians job to share her knowledge with you so that you can make the best choices for your skin. Education also involves recommendations for home care products. It’s in your best interest for her to make suggestions. She’s not just trying to sell; she’s trying to help you.

As the client, you have a large role in the of process of looking for a great esthetician too. You need to be as honest as possible and this isn’t always easy. Admitting that you have poor skin care habits is tough. Admitting your bad habits, or bad product use can be embarrassing, but if you aren’t honest, she can’t really help you. So rip off the band aid and tell all. If she’s got all the qualities above, she’s not going to judge, she’ll find a way to help.

how great skin care can improve your luck

St. Patty’s Day has come and gone but do you recall feeling any luckier that day? The truth is, the “luck” we celebrate that day is short lived and at best. So the best we can do is create our own good fortune. Did you know that your skin can do just that? It’s true, practicing good skin care can indeed change your luck.

Think about first Impressions – your face is literally your business card. When you walk into a meeting or an interview, like it or not, you are initially being judged on your appearance. Your skin plays a big role here. If you arrive with dull, tired, broken out skin, the impression you may give is that you are just that – dull and tired and maybe even lazy. You can have the best credentials in the world but you may miss an opportunity for a job, a new business relationship, a personal relationships or a sale because your skin and overall appearance are not at their best. Here are 3 ways you can positively influence your chances to make a great first impression that don’t require luck:

1) Sleep – It seems obvious but it requires mentioning. No matter how busy or how distracted you feel,  you need to sleep. Sleep is incredibly important to your overall health. It’s your body’s time to repair itself. Your skin also goes into repair mode when you sleep. At night, skin cells repair the damage caused by free radicals during the day thus the fresh look you have when you get a good night’s rest. There are countless other reasons why you need sleep – the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute can give you more.

2) Eat – Eat right and your skin will reflect this. Foods rich in anti-oxidants and omega 3’s will help you achieve radiant skin. It’s really as easy as that. Eat to live, not the other way around. Consider supplements that can help you achieve your skin care, health and weight loss goals. has some really great options.

3) says it best: “Water is the worlds best beauty elixir.” If you want your skin to look it’s best, water is your best friend. It’s also a great way to detox your organs by flushing away toxins. So drink up!

Good luck is just that, a matter of luck. But you don’t need it when you are talking about your appearance. All you really need are healthy habits and a good attitude. Both are free, how lucky is that?!

3 Unusual Ways to Look Younger

Apr 2, 2017 3:19:22 PM

unusual ways to look younger

Looking good is key to feeling good. Blah blah blah, we all know this. But before you roll your eyes and move on, take a minute to find out about 3 ways you can look younger that are truly not the norm.

1)   Coconut Oil. If you have trouble getting your makeup off. Try using pure coconut oil first. You can find it just about anywhere (even the grocery) and it’s not especially expensive. When paired with a good quality cleanser, It’s a gentle but effective way to remove makeup. Apply the oil all over the face and then rinse. Follow with cleanser to remove the rest of your makeup and truly cleanse the skin. Your skin will glow from the healing properties of the oil and your wallet will grow as you save money on cleanser because you won’t need nearly as much. Check out the wide range of Thalgo cleansers to find one perfect for your skin.

2)   You are what you eat. Or drink. You have heard it before; what you eat affects your skin. For radiant skin, stick with healthy fruits and veggies and stay away from processed sugars. Tomatoes for example contain and anti-oxidant; lycopene which works from within as a sunscreen to protect the body from UVA and UVB rays Consider supplements like flaxseed, and omega -3’s. They are great for the heart AND the skin. Our favorite way to care for skin from within is with liquid collagen. With 5000 mcg of marine collagen peptides and Age Protect Complex, Thalgo Collagen 5000 literally destroys free radicals, protects the cell membranes and delivers smoother, radiant skin. It’s a no-brainer.

3)   Sleep. Ok so this one isn’t so unusual but it’s probably the most important way you can look younger. At night, your skin cells work to regenerate and repair the damage of the day. Cell metabolism is twice as high while you sleep so skimping on Z’s is literally not an option. Take the time before bed to thoroughly cleanse your skin. Try setting the timer on your phone for 2 minutes and gently and continually cleanse. This concentrated cleansing will help to remove the debris of the day and prep your skin for nightly repair. Apply a mask at least twice a week to intensely repair the skin. Try the all new Thalgo Prodige Mask (available May 2017). This unique patented oxygen technology reactivates the 64 proteins key to youthful skin after just 5 minutes.

Great skin care doesn’t have to come normally. A healthy lifestyle can take years off your appearance and add years to your life. #livelong

Aging Skin

When working with a client recently, one of our estheticians was shocked to hear the client tell her that she believed it was too late to begin practicing good skin care because: she was already over 40 and her skin was done aging. What?

As ridiculous as it sounds, these are actually two pretty common misconceptions. Many women feel they have missed the boat if they didn’t begin taking care of their skin in their 20s. This is simply not true. Women (and men) can begin a good skin regimen, at ANY age that WILL help their skin look younger… longer. Here are 3 simple ways to help your clients get started:

1)    Hydrate. The skin ages or appears to age more quickly when it is dehydrated. So advising your clients to drink plenty of water consistently is the best way they can help their skin look younger. Hydrated skin will appear more youthful and fine lines and wrinkles will be less obvious. explains several reasons why water is so important for younger, healhier skin.

2)    Moisturize. It sounds obvious but it’s not for many people. They need to protect and moisturize the skin twice daily in order to see results. The skin regenerates and repairs itself at night so a good quality moisturizer especially at night is absolutely critical.

3)    Protect. UVA rays are the sun’s most damaging rays to the skin. Encourage your client to use a good quality sun screen every day. It’s a simple habit that can be so important to staving off the aging process. Remind them that the suns rays are there even when it’s cloudy and they are inside their car.

Once your client is comfortable with this simple routine you can add to it with an eye cream suitable for their skin type, a serum if they are in need and of course a product to help their skin with cell turn over. But ease into it, most clients need to start small and see results before you can add products to their regimen. Once they see the results from your first suggestions they will trust you when you suggest add-ons.

When a client lets you know that they believe their skin is done aging. You can gently explain the process of intrinsic aging (caused by genetics) and extrinsic aging (caused by external factors like stress, diet, pollution and sun exposure). Extrinsic factors are what you can help them with. They are more likely to believe science so a giving a simple definition of each may help convince them they they really are still aging and they will look better with good skin care.

Before You Diet Do These 3 Things

Feb 22, 2017 3:55:14 PM

Beginning a diet can be everything from exciting to scary. The thought of how you will look and feel when you lose weight can be motivating and invigorating. But deciding what diet, what path, and how to begin can be overwhelming.

As lucrative as the diet industry has become, its interesting to note that there's been an overall shift in the traditional diet revolution. The emphasis now is from weight loss to overall health. The general attitude is that the health and well being trumps the number on the scale. And true beauty is not found in the number on the scale. Finally!

With this known, there are a few things you should think about before you begin your diet:

1) Determine your true goal. Are you all about losing weight, or are you striving to improve your overall health? Obviously, the two go hand and hand. But your intentions will have a direct impact on how you go about losing weight so make a firm decision before getting started.

2) Determine your timing. How fast do you want to lose? You already know that gimmicky diets can be successful in the short term but weight loss is difficult to maintain. Why? Because the diet itself is so restrictive that it’s not reasonable to live with long term. Challenge yourself to lose a portion of your overall goal by a reasonable date and then repeat. The slower you lose the longer the weight stays off.

3) Determine your plan. Are you going it alone or will you have better results with a formal plan? Many nationally recognized weight loss plans offer support and coaching. This accountability might be just what you need to stay committed. If you think you can go it alone, give it a try but be open to coaching if you aren’t making progress.

Thalgo USA offers nutritional supplements with focus on healthy ways to help you get started with your weight loss. From products that help jumpstart your weight loss to products that help control your appetite, we have what you need to get to your weight loss goals.

Mens Skin Care

Skin care for men is gaining momentum and millennial men are spending more time and money on themselves overall. In fact, the men's grooming industry is expanding all across the globe, and was estimated to bring in $21 billion in revenue in 2016, according to

But even though men’s habits are changing and they are spending more money on themselves, their skin care routines remain simple. They are not interested in complex hygiene. So simple, effective, skin care steps are still what works best for guys. Here are 3 simple steps to help your guy look his best.

1)    Keep it clean. Men don’t naturally think to cleanse their face but it’s the key to keeping skin healthy. Give him something that he can use in the shower to save time and get the job done.

2)    Keep it smooth. After shave balm is the best way to soothe and repair the skin and to ease irritations caused by shaving. It’s quick and easy and will make a big impact on red irritated post-shave skin.

3)    Keep it simple. Even men are concerned about aging. A regenerating cream will help preserve youthful energized skin while combatting signs of aging. His skin will be visibly smoother and wrinkles will be reduced in less time than it will take him to watch his favorite team win (or lose) a game.

Over the past decade, serums have made an impactful impression in skin care. They address a myriad of skin concerns that range from anti-aging to dark spots and discolorations.

Serums are known to carry a higher concentration of active ingredients and penetrate more deeply into the skin offering targeted correction for specific purposes like dehydration, lifting, firming, improved tone, texture, fine lines and wrinkles. With all these benefits, why then do some serums fail?

1) Because they are not made with enough of the good stuff. Sad but true. There are thousands of them on the market all promising a different miracle. The sad truth is they don’t pack enough of the active ingredient they are advertising to make much of a difference. Check the label to see where the active ingredient lies. If it’s not in the top five it’s so diluted it won’t be effective. Thalgo Prodige Des' Oceans is the perfect example of a high quality serum packed with active ingredients. With the unique power of regenerative Marine Intelligence, this essence contains the best of the 5 Oceans to infuse the skin with over 61 biiomimetic nutrients essential to the skin's ability to regenerate itself. This product will leave the skin refined, the skin tone even, and exceptional radiance.

2) The wrong serum is prescribed for the client’s problem. Sounds simple but it happens all the time. When looking for a serum, be sure to explain your greatest skin concern(s) and make sure the serum you are offered is designed to treat it. If dark spots are your nemesis, a serum designed for dehydration isn’t likely to make a difference. Thalgo MCeutic Resurfacer Cream/Serum is the best example of a dual purpose cream/serum designed to correct the skin's irregularities. With a "new skin" effect, dark spots will be visably reduced and the skin tone will be even, glowing and luminous.

3) Serums can be loaded with active ingredients but they can also be loaded with junk. Sounds harsh but it’s true. We can’t say it enough, look at the ingredients. If the product you are interested in is loaded with Pegs or Parabens, walk away. For more information about potentially harmful skincare ingredients visit the Global Healing Center.

Serums are one of the most impactful products in the skin care line up. They can give the skin an overall younger, healthier appearance. They can help boost moisture during dry periods or colder weather and they can make a big impact on your overall appearance. So whether you are interested in cell turnover or wrinkle correction, remember that you need to do your homework before investing your hard earned money.

Thalgo is please to offer several serums designed to treat several skin concerns. To check out our complete line visit

Top Skin Care Trends for 2017

Jan 26, 2017 8:47:25 AM

skin care trends

A lot can change in a year, and 2016 ushered in some trends that made quite the impact. Some of them will top the trend list again for 2017 and a few we may not see again for quite some time. Here’s a peak at our top skin care trends for 2017:

1)    You Are What You Eat:

This trend began making its way into the skin care faves the latter half of last year and we think its going to stick around for quite some time. The concept that diet can impact skin isn’t rocket science. Doctors have been telling us that our diet impacts our overall health for years. But the focus on foods rich in probiotics, and drinkable collagen and hyaluronic acid supplements have certainly turned some heads. The basic motto is: good skin comes from within. We can protect and enhance the skin topically but eating well, taking probiotics and drinking collagen help to build collagen and elastin from the inside and are more easily assimilated. And let’s not forget that they help to strengthen the skin’s barrier function. Check out Thalgo’s Collagen 5000 drink, which contains 5,000 mg of marine collagen and provides comprehensive wrinkle correction and hydration.

2)Facial Masks:

Facial masks have been around for centuries, literally since Cleopatra. But for the last few years they have really made a come back. According to American Spa Magazine, “The market value of facial masks is estimated to reach more than $7.4 billion in 2020 alone.” This is likely because they offer instant gratification, are highly effective and can be added to just about any spa service. For these reasons alone, we think masks will reign in the top trends for quite some time. Want to try a mask at home? Thalgo’s new MCeutic Essential Regenerating Mask speeds up the optimum regeneration of the skin and helps it to regain vitality and radiance. It’s also deeply hydrating and perfect for the winter months too.

3)    At Home Skin Care Devices

At home devices are not new, but they have improved significantly over the last few years making them a popular buy. Skin care brushes for cleansing are probably at the top of the list. We like how well they clean the skin but be careful not to use ANY pressure when you are using them. Too much pressure can over-exfoliate and cause long term damage and thinning of the skin. At home LED devices are going to remain popular this year and work if you are diligent and patient. They are effective for the treatment of redness and acne but are not nearly as strong as those used by estheticians, so patience and diligence are the key. Unless you are willing to use them daily for the recommended time, don’t waste your money. Head to an esthetician that you trust for the real deal.

4)    Products That Exfoliate:

People are always looking for ways to remove dead skin cells. And for the last several years, the trend was to use products you find in your pantry or at the grocery to deep clean and exfoliate.  This year, it looks like people will be heading back to the spa for products and treatments that exfoliate. Products which include vitamin A or a derivative do the best job of exfoliating the skin and increasing cell turnover. At home peel kits have risen to fame recently because they give busy customers the opportunity to exfoliate on their own time. Thalgo MCeutic Intensive At Home Peel concentrates a dual power of exfoliation and renewal (chemical and enzymatic). It’s the perfect way to even and clear the complexion, refine the skin’s texture and leaves skin radiant.

5)    Serums:

A continuing trend from 2016, Serums are still going to be popular this year. They truly are a great way to enhance the skin care routine because they are weightless, easy to use, and provide additional moisture, minerals and antioxidants. The results have been stunning and customers are hooked. There are serums for every skin type and every skin condition. Serums for hydration, skin brightening, skin firmness, etc. If you are not sure what type of serum you need, contact your esthetician for advice. Thalgo’s Silicium Concentrate reduces wrinkles and firms the eyelids, facial contours and neck. By fighting against visible wrinkles and skin slackening, this concentrated serum soaks the skin in active ingredients to redefine facial contours. Used as a treatment, it has a long-term in-depth action.

All she wants for Christmas is clearer, brighter skin

This wish is likely on millions of women’s Christmas lists. And for some it might even be an annual wish. That’s because the thought of attaining the type of skin that looks good all the time, even without makeup seems so unattainable. But it’s not. Here’s why:

1)    Clear skin is an investment. But not necessarily a financial one. The first step is really about finding the correct skin care products for your skin.  This can be tricky. Not all faces are alike and as such, it’s sometimes tough to define the products and the protocol that’s most effective. So invest some time in this process. It may require a trip to your trusted esthetician but their knowledge and experience can be a priceless tool to help you obtain clearer skin. If you are not sure where to find a good spa or esthetician, check out our list of Thalgo partners for help.

2)    Brighter skin is another seemingly unattainable feat. But it’s not. In many cases, a peel is the best place to start. Chemical peels come in all shapes and sizes, but one thing is for sure, you should start slow. Start with one that’s gentle so you can determine your skin’s ability to handle the service. Jumping in with both feet by trying a stronger peel will only result in red, peeling and irritated skin. Start with a low grade peel and work your way up. This will help the skin assimilate and you will be that much closer to clearer, brighter skin. If you are not into the idea of heading to a spa, try the Thalgo Mceutic Intensive peel. This at home treatment concentrates a dual power of renewal (enzymatic and chemical) to ensure proven effectiveness in seven days. Persistent roughness is reduced by up to 35.3% for a more refined skin texture and a clearer, more even complexion. Corrects blemishes and irregularities, evens out the complexion’s radiance, refines the skin's texture, and tightens pores.

3)    Once you’ve found the right daily skin care regimen, and you have begun the peel process, maintenance is now your best friend. Stay current with your peels, get them as often as your esthetician recommends and no more than that. And maintain your results with a daily moisturizer that will continue to promote healthy skin metabolism and cell turnover which will keep your skin clear and bright. Consider the Thalgo Mceutic Resurfacer Cream-Serum. It’s  a powerful serum that perfects the surface of the skin and it’s highly concentrated in multi-perfecting active for optimal penetration. Resurfacer Cream-Serum corrects persistent cutaneous irregularities for a “new skin” effect. Residual marks such as hyper pigmentation and sun spots are visibly reduced and skin tone Is more even and radiant.

Sabrina Robinson (pictured here), followed all these steps and achieved amazing results. You can too,  contact us at for more information.

Grey Market, Hidden Dangers

Dec 6, 2016 3:53:12 PM

What is the grey market? What is product diversion? Why are they so dangerous?

The grey market as defined by, “refers to the import and sale of goods by unauthorized dealers; such activity is unofficial but not illegal.”

Business defines product diversion as: “Practice in which goods intended for a particular market are diverted to be sold in another, usually without the knowledge or permission of the primary vendor.”

Many consumers are unaware that they are buying products from unauthorized dealers. Hair care is a great example. Retailers such as Target, CVS and Walgreens currently sell haircare products that they are not authorized to sell. The buyer, in many cases, is completely oblivious.

Consumers purchasing from unauthorized sources are sometimes unaware they are violating the manufacturers intended use for these products and as such, unaware of how dangerous they can be. In the case of Skin Care products, it is doubtful that grey market sources are storing products in a climate-controlled facility. Nor are they shipping them appropriately.

Products sold in the grey market are often used, sometimes counterfeit, tampered-with, or may be altered in the original packaging due to the nature of the storage or handling once purchased. As such, the product formulas, if mishandled, can be altered and consumers as a result can have adverse reactions.

What happens if Skin Care products are mishandled, improperly stored, or tampered with? There are a several negative and potentially dangerous possibilities:

1)    Most Grey Market products are beyond shelf life or expiration when they are purchased. Active ingredients can become inactive once they exceed the allotted expiration date so your purchase could essentially be worthless.

2)    Active ingredients are potentially harmful to the skin or the body if they have not been stored in climate controlled facilities or are mishandled during shipping. Your skin, your face specifically, is the first thing people see when they meet you. Do you really want to risk this by applying products which can cause skin irritations and infections?

3)    Reputable manufacturers will guarantee their products and offer assistance should you have questions using them. If you buy from an unauthorized dealer, all guarantees are void should you have an adverse reaction and support will be non-existent should you have questions. In other words, BUYER BEWARE…you are on your own.

4)    Supporting Product Diversion and the Grey Market forces manufacturers to raise the costs of production and thus retail costs to absorb the losses of those products sold unethically. Unethical behavior such as this definitely has a negative and long term trickle down effect to the economy.

If this article causes you worry or concern, then we have gotten our message across effectively. It’s important that you know the dangers involved in supporting this market whether knowingly or not. Product Diversion and the Grey Market have existed for years and will continue to exist for many more. But ask yourself, is the money you save buying here really worth the risk to your health and your skin? Do you feel good about purchasing products in an unethical way?

For your safety refer to Thalgo’s discontinued products:

why you need skin care

Good skincare isn’t just about getting facials, it’s also about the products that you put on your skin every day. You may not often think about why you need good skincare, but in case you are curious, here are some pretty important reasons why you should:

1) Your face is the first impression you make.

This says it all. You can’t live life hiding your face all the time, so taking good care of your skin is a great way to make a good first impression. Good skin says that you care about how you look, you care about your hygiene and it shows you care about your health.

2) Healthy skin begets healthier skin.

Did you know that taking care of your skin by cleansing, hydrating and regularly exfoliating promotes cell turnover to new healthy skin cells? Healthy skin cells = healthy younger looking skin.

3) Looking good is directly linked to feeling good.

Good skincare helps you look good and when you look good you mentally feel good.

4) Good skincare products will help prevent aging.

Keeping your skin healthy and hydrated can and will help prevent fine lines and wrinkles which are the tell tale signs of aging.

5) Deep cleansing the skin regularly will help prevent acne.

Proper cleansing and exfoliation of the outer layer of the skin (the Stratum Corneum), will prevent bacteria from becoming trapped thus causing acne.

6) Facials give you the opportunity to relax and relaxing is directly related to good health.

Studies show that stress left untreated can lead to serious health problems such as high blood pressure and heart problems. So….taking care of your skin could save your life. Ok, so maybe that’s a little dramatic but you get the picture.

There are countless other reasons that skincare is important, but this sampling illustrates some of the most important examples. For more information about skincare, sign up for our newsletter.

Why Algae? Part II

Jul 23, 2016 6:09:56 PM

algae in skin care

In our recent blog “Why Algae Part I,” we talked all about the benefits and importance of Algae in skin care. We mentioned that “Algae have a very high concentration of mineral elements (iodine, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, cobalt, iron, fluoride, etc.) and also contain almost every vitamin and amino acid. Thanks to this particularly rich composition, algae boast antiviral as well as antibacterial qualities.”

For more than 50 years, THALGO has explored the sea depths and identified specific seaweeds with anti-aging, slimming, detoxifying, rebalancing, hydrating and soothing properties.

The sea is where life on our planet began. Three billion years ago the first living cells were single cell blue algae. When you analyze seawater under a microscope, you can see it has a very similar structure to blood plasma. The human body is made up of approximately 70% water. The sea makes up 3/4 of the earth’s surface. Algae are responsible for 1/3 of the world’s oxygen production.

There are literally thousands of types of algae. Some are more rich in mineral elements than others. If you are the curious type, check out our Thalgo Partner website and click the link on algae. It explains all the different types of algae used, where and when they are harvested and the properties that make them valuable to skincare.

Why Algae?

Jul 14, 2016 2:54:30 PM

algae in skin care

For years, Thalgo has incorporated algae as the basic ingredient for their skin care, body care and supplements. Why algae? Well there are several reasons this super power from the sea can benefit your skin and body.

Algae have a very high concentration of mineral elements (iodine, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, cobalt, iron, fluoride, etc.) and also contain almost every vitamin and amino acid. Thanks to this particularly rich composition, algae boast antiviral as well as antibacterial qualities. They are even used to heal rheumatism and regulate the thyroid gland

In addition, Algae have the amazing ability to increase the rich content of minerals and trace elements of the sea and restore its strengthening, remineralizing and balancing properties, sometimes by up to 100,000 times. The star of treatments, algae, act like sponges in Thalassotherapy to give you the best that seawater has to offer.

The term thalassotherapy dates back to 1867 when Doctor de La Bonnardière, from Arcachon, France, invented the word from two Greek words meaning “treat with the sea” (in Greek, thalassa = sea and therapeia = treatment).

Thalassotherapy takes place in a special marine site. It combines the use of all the benefits of the marine environment under medical supervision with a preventive and curative aim. These benefits include the marine climate, seawater, marine mud, algae, sand and other substances extracted from the sea. Thalassotherapy must be carried out in close proximity to the sea.

The curative properties of seawater and the marine climate have been used for therapeutic means since ancient times. Today’s Marine Treatments are a true asset for our well-being. So instead of asking why algae, we should really be asking why NOT?

Thalgo Cold Cream Marine

Jun 2, 2016 11:02:25 PM

Cold Cream Marine

Back in February we introduced a new line of skin care for dry and sensitive skin. And while we rarely blog about our products alone we felt that this line warranted a spotlight; it’s that good.

The Cold Cream Marine line is based on Thalgo’s new discovery of phytoplankton micro-algae oil. This oil has the ability to “bio-accumulate” lipids in dry and sensitive skin to replenish, soothe and repair the skin.

Thalgo labs have created this line based on this discovery. The products have been tested and proven to change the way your skin looks, feels and actually helps increase the skin’s tolerance so that further irritation will be less, well, irritating. Too good to be true? Not this time.

Teens and Acne

June is acne awareness month, a good time to take a look at what causes acne and how best to treat it. For teens, acne is one of the most frustrating and embarrassing problems they face during an already awkward time. As if being a teenager isn’t difficult enough, having to have to deal with inflamed and angry skin only adds to their list of teenage nightmares.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, “Acne is the most common skin condition in the United States.” It is caused by sebum produced from the sebaceous glands. A combination of bacteria, sebum and dead skin cells can clog the pores resulting in pimples.

Acne can effect teens both physically and emotionally. Emotionally, acne is concerning because let’s face it, kids can be cruel and long term persistent acne can have an adverse effect on self esteem. Physically, acne is troubling because of the long term effects it can have on the skin. Cystic acne or pimples that have been picked too much can scar leaving the skin surface red or in some cases mottled with pock marks.

So how can you help your teen in the throws of acne?

1)    Assure them that there are solutions and that this problem is generally temporary. Try a few over-the-counter options to see if they help. Often times, the solution is as easy as making sure they are cleansing regularly.

2)    If you’re at-home treatment plan isn’t working, don’t be afraid to contact a professional esthetician or dermatologist to help treat the condition. In many cases the fix requires simple changes in the skincare routine or trying different products or prescriptions. In many cases however, more intense treatment may be needed to make a positive impact. Your esthetician or dermatologist will inform you of the options.

3)    Practice patience and don’t give up. Treating acne can be frustrating because not all treatments work for all kids. Trial and error may be the best way to determine the best course of treatment for your teen. In the mean time, assure them that it’s a process and you will eventually find a plan that works for them. And whatever you do, remind them not to pick! Picking at acne can spread bacteria which will worsen the problem and possibly produce scarring.

Teen acne isn’t going anywhere but don’t lose hope, there are many different treatment options practiced by both estheticians and dermatologists which can lead to a solution suitable for your teen.

The Truth About Cellulite

May 19, 2016 8:23:17 PM

It’s time to stop sugar coating and be honest. Cellulite is the worst! It’s worse than worse, it’s horrendous. For many it’s considered one of the top ten most frustrating body issues, especially for women. And for some, it’s not a matter of weight or size, it’s actually genetics, now that’s not fair. So now that the hate fest has begun, lets talk about how to tackle stubborn cellulite because not everything on the market works.

According to, cellulite affects nearly 90% of women in their lifetime…90%! Let that sink in for a moment.

So what causes this evil condition? Cellulite is caused by tissue hypoxia, which is fancy way to say that the tissue beneath the skin is lacking oxygen.  Essentially fat deposits push through the tissue of the skin weakening the connective tissue, thus causing dimpling. The problem can be exacerbated by lack of exercise, muscle tone, exercise and poor circulation. And guess what, the condition worsens with age, so we should work to minimize the appearance sooner rather than later.

Believe it or not there are some natural home remedies that help manage cellulite.

1)  Topical Treatments - According to Top 10 Home Remedies,  apple cider vinegar mixed with water has been known to help as a topical treatment:  1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Apply to the surface, rinse after 30 minutes.

2)  Detox – Drain the skin and body by drinking warm lemon water every morning when you wake up. This will help the organs function properly and reduce excess fluid in the body. Try ½ lemon squeezed into an 8 ounce mug.

3)  Dry Brushing – using a brush with natural bristles, work up from the legs toward the heart. There are countless helpful tutorials on Pinterest to help you learn the proper technique.

4)  Diet – Although genetics often plays a role in cellulite, diet can have a direct impact as well. Eating a diet rich in avocados, bell peppers and cucumbers can help combat the development of new cellulite.

We could go on and on with suggested home remedies. And there are many that are proven to have positive results. The bottom line is and always has been: eat right and exercise. And apply products that have proven results to correct cellulite, tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of dimpling.

Thalgo has created a line of slimming and firming products tested and proven to firm the deeper layers of skin where persistent cellulite exists, combating the appearance of skin slackening and redefining and re-sculpting the skin tissue. In fact, Dermascope Magazine awarded the Thalgo High Performance Firming Cream the Aestheticians Choice for 2016.

Stress and the skin

We often hear about the effects that stress has on our body but we may not think about the direct implications it has on our skin.

According to the mayoclininc, when discussing the physiological way our Body deals with stress: “your brain comes hard-wired with an alarm system for your protection. When your brain perceives a threat, it signals your body to release a burst of hormones to fuel your capacity for a response. This has been labeled the "fight-or-flight" response.”

Our body can react to this type of stress in numerous ways. Normal reactions are headaches, nervousness, upset stomach, sleeplessness, fatigue and even chest pain.

The other ways that stress can effect the body is with skin conditions. When we are stressed, there are two uncomfortable skin conditions that can appear or worsen due to stress:

1)    Eczema - which causes the skin to be swollen, red, itchy and flaky.

2)    Psoriasis – Red scaly patches of skin that can cause joint pain as well.

There are also less obvious effects that stress has on the skin. Since stress can cause sleeplessness, the skin does not repair itself at night as it should. The result can be dull, tired looking skin, increased fine lines and wrinkles, puffiness under the eyes and even breakouts.

The bottom line, stress can take its toll on our health and our skin as well. We must be as diligent as possible in taking care of our selves to limit the amount of stress we expose ourselves too. While stress is often unavoidable, it’s important to know that there are ways we can combat it. In fact, we recently published a blog to help guide you to wellness.

The Evolution of Skincare

Feb 24, 2016 7:50:00 PM

skin care

According to The History of, there is significant reason to believe that the Egyptians began the practice of skin care somewhere around 3000 BC. Indicating that Queens and Pharaoh’s were as concerned about beauty back then as we are today.

Ancient facial treatments incorporated natural ingredients such as clay and oils to hydrate and protect the skin from the sun and wild mushrooms to lighten the skin. Holistic practices incorporating facial massage and exercise were also used to improve the appearance of wrinkles. Over the years, facial masks made of anything from sesame seeds, black beans, seaweed to jellyfish were used to maintain a youthful appearance.

Marine mud, seaweed and algae are still readily used in skincare products and treatments today. Thalgo Marine Skin Care has perfected the use of elements of the sea with their line of professional skin and body care products.

Why Algae?  Algae have the amazing ability to increase the rich content of minerals and trace elements of the sea and restore its strengthening, remineralizing and balancing properties, sometimes by up to 100,000 times. The star of treatments, algae act like sponges in Thalassotherapy to give you the best that seawater has to offer.

They have a very high concentration of mineral elements (iodine, calcium, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, copper, zinc, cobalt, iron, fluoride, etc.) and also contain almost every vitamin and amino acid. Thanks to this particularly rich composition, algae boast antiviral as well as antibacterial qualities. They are used to heal rheumatism and regulate the thyroid gland.

While the most common use is in algae body wraps, in which the body is entirely covered with hot algae before being wrapped in a hot blanket, algae can also be used in a bath or even find their way onto your plate. The muscles relax, blood circulation is reactivated and toxins are eliminated.

The story of skincare is a long one and involves many interesting practices, but the bottom line is, we all just want to look and feel good about our skin. For more information on how your skin can look it’s best and the Thalgo extensive line of Marine Skin and Body Care, go to

Changes in skincare

According to Euromonitor International, “skincare continues to be beauty’s most valuable category.” With so many external influences to the industry, it’s no surprise that 2016 is shaping up to be the year that changes skincare. Let’s take a look at why this year will prove to bring more to the industry than years past:

1)   Knowledgeable buyers: With the internet now as the center of our worlds, consumers are savvier than ever before.

2)   Technological Advances: Manufacturers are putting to use the latest technologies to create the best skincare products and devises possible.

3)   Nutrition and skincare: Evidence continues to prove there’s a true connection between nutrition and how it effects the skin. Drinkable collagen supplements, for example, are 1 way people are helping to keep their skin healthy from the inside out.

4)   Devices: LED, Light Therapy, Ultrasound, Microcurrent…. we could go on an on. Devices are more popular than ever and advances in technology will continue this year.

5)   Ingredients: Modern ingredients mean more effective products. Marine skin care for example, continues to make a “splash” The use of algae in skincare is so more effective because it is absorbed so readily by human skin.

6)   Natural and Organic: Consumers now desire skincare with natural and organic ingredients which inspires manufacturers to continue developing in this direction.

7)   Alternative forms of healing: Skin care is often partnered with wellness and holistic care. How you feel about your appearance has a direct effect on your overall well being.

8)   Social Media: Social media can be an excellent tool to educate and gauge what’s popular in the industry and what is still needed.

9)   Pro-Youth Treatments: Parents who believe in good skin care are raising kids with good skin care habits too and the surge in teen facial treatments is proof.

10)  Sunscreen and skincare: The knowledge of environmental dangers to the skin has prompted sunscreen awareness, which is at an all-time high.

11)  Talent: Spas continue to recruit great talent and manufacturers are recruiting the best engineers to formulate products that are better for the skin and more effective.

12)  Genetics: Knowledge of how they effect the skin continues to amaze and help determine effective courses of treatment.

13)  The need to unplug and relax: With the explosion of the internet, social media, and cell phones the need to unplug and relax is greater than ever. Consumers are more open to the benefits of doing this and spas are making it more enjoyable.

14)  Blends:  Such as skincare infused foundations, BB Creams and concealers that have anti-aging ingredients are highly desired and more effective than ever.

15)  Antioxidants: Consumer desire to protect the skin against environmental dangers such as free radicals have made antioxidants the star of anti-aging and will continue to catapult this ingredient to the top of the “must- have “list.

16)  Better Spas and Resorts: Local spas and resorts continue to improve the quality of the visit and the level of skin care they provide.

Many believe that wellness is the opposite of sickness. If you are not sick, then you are well and thus… you have wellness.  This is not the case, wellness has many levels. According to, “Wellness is a positive approach to living – that emphasizes the whole person. It is the integration of body, mind, and spirit; and the appreciation that everything you do, think, feel, and believe has an impact on your overall health.”

The National Wellness Institute has developed a 6 dimensional model of wellness in various aspects of our life:

  • Occupational
  • Physical
  • Social
  • Intellectual
  • Spiritual
  • Emotional

The model suggests that applying wellness to these categories will contribute to our overall well-being and “a person becomes aware of the interconnectedness of each dimension and how they contribute to healthy living.”

Information is power, which leads to understanding and acceptance. If you are ready to embark on wellness and holistic care be prepared that some people may not understand and in some cases will dismiss the concept altogether. So what’s holding back the wellness industry? We are. The most resistant to this concept are the ones who are in a repetitive cycle of waking up, going to work, coming home, going to bed to only then repeat the next day. This is not a bad thing. Routine offers comfort and stability, two things humans need, but too much routine can become boring and bad habits like overeating and depression can set in.

One way to avoid this is learning to live with intent and being mindful of our surroundings. Daily meditation without distractions (television, kids running around, etc.) is an easy and inexpensive way to begin your journey. It sounds simple, because it is. The return on your “investment” is priceless. Wellness is a full circle approach. Fueling your mind is as important as fueling your body. Your mindset and attitude act like food to your emotional health and well-being which is key to overall wellness.

Once you decide to embark on wellness, define for yourself, the areas that need focus. Contact organizations (above) or seek out local holistic wellness centers for guidance. Wellness doesn’t have to be complicated but it may take time to get used to. Pace yourself and take breaks when needed. Like any new routine it will take time to perfect your approach. Also remember to congratulate yourself on your “wins, no matter how small.”

The wellness industry is a multi-billion dollar global industry. Spas and resorts spend countless dollars to ensure that guests leave feeling healthier than when they arrived – inside & out. Also, do your research and ask questions.  Don’t believe everything you read and don’t feel pressured to invest in anything “wellness or holistic” that doesn’t seem or feel right to you.

If the fancy spa isn’t your ticket, Organic Spa magazine’s Top 10 Rituals for Self-Care (February 2016) offers excellent tips and focuses on ways to achieve wellness or at least begin the journey, from the comfort of your own home.

Thalgo supports your journey of well-being with nutritional programs/supplements for slimming, detoxing and well-being because they believe that “feeling and looking your absolute best starts from within.”

Myths about skin care

Most skin care articles and social media posts are likely rich with good information and tips about how to care for your skin and protect it as you age. The ability to access such information is a great benefit to anyone interested in looking their best and caring for their skin.  But what if the information you read isn’t true? What if the tips that you read about are not good for you or for your skin? This is what your esthetician does NOT want you to know about. Following poor skin care advice can not only irritate your skin, it can have long term effects on it, some of which can be irreversible.

To clear up any conflicting information you may have read, here are the top 5 myths about skincare debunked:

1)  Myth: The Higher the SPF in my sunscreen, the more protection I am getting.

Truth: This is a common misconception. In fact, the SPF rating can give a false sense of security.  According to Skin Inc. Magazine, “an SPF of 50 is only marginally more protective than an SPF of 15.” Instead of looking at the number, look for a broad spectrum sunscreen with protection from UVA and UVB rays and active ingredients such as titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Make sure these actives are among the first 3 ingredients on the bottle so you know they are the most concentrated and wear sunscreen even on cloudy days.

2)  Myth:  You must cleanse your face morning and night.

Truth: Cleansing the skin in the morning is not necessarily needed (unless you have acne prone skin).  In fact, cleansing twice a day can actually dry the skin. The truth is if you cleanse well at night and apply a good moisturizer, you will wake up with some moisture and oil on the skin in the morning that provides a great barrier of protection throughout the day. So skip the morning cleanse and apply your daily skin care products (including suncreen) before going outdoors.

3)  Myth: Eating Greasy food can cause breakouts.

Truth:  Science doesn’t support this one. Although eating a well-balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables is recommended, there’s no actual proof that the pizza you ate last night will lead to a breakout today. Pimples are caused by bacteria and skin cells and  often linked to hormones…not your diet. Still, limiting the amount of high calorie greasy food is always recommended for good health and will help to keep your skin looking radiant.

4)  Myth: Good Skincare can erase signs of aging.

Truth: While good skincare certainly helps maintain the youthful appearance of your skin, there are other contributing factors such as nutrition and good circulation. If your arteries for example, are not working properly, the end result will be a dull dry complexion.  If you suspect you may have a similar problem, seek help from your healthcare provider to normalize blood pressure and prevent permanent damage to your health and to your skin.

5) Myth: There’s no difference between over the counter skin care products and medical grade professional products.

Truth: Professional products are manufactured with a higher concentration of active ingredients such as peptides, hyaluronic acid, algae, salicylic acid, vitamins C,D and E and collagen to name a few. Over the counter, less expensive options may have these ingredients but they are manufactured with such small amounts of them and often diluted by emulsifiers so they aren’t able to be as effective as professional products. Thalgo Marine Skin Care has developed a wide range of skin care products designed for every type of skin. Rich in algae, the product line is renowned for treatments and products that deliver excellent results. Founded in 1964, it is the original French marine spa brand, and from the outset, has been led by science and marine research. Today, THALGO is the range chosen by over 20,000 top spas, resorts, and thalassotherapy centers in more than 90 countries.

Even Santa Takes Care of His Skin

Dec 21, 2015 10:46:39 PM

Thalgo Men

Good to know right?! Even though he’s magical, he’s got to care for his skin just like any other guy. Especially in his line of work and the direct exposure to wind and cold temps. Some might say he needs to care for his skin even more than most men do. But he’s a busy guy (especially this time of year), so his daily skin care regimen has to be quick and easy or let’s face it, he’s not going to keep up with it.

Just like women, men suffer from oily skin and enlarged pores. Daily shaving often causes skin irritation and dryness. Men need products that will prevent irritation, soothe the skin after shaving and prevent breakouts. In fact, it wouldn’t hurt to get a facial from a professional every once in a while.

Although the idea of going to a spa for skincare may not appeal to the average guy, the truth of the matter is that men need facials just as much as women do. This is due in part to harsher exposure to the elements (work/leisure), larger pores (as mentioned above), coarse skin and skin damage caused by not wearing the proper SPF protection.  The perfect analogy was stated in the November 2014 article in Men’s Health, 3 Good Reasons to Get a Facial,: “But the real motivation to get your skin handled by the pros is the same reason you have a mechanic work on your car: They can do it better than you can.”

Whether you are willing to see an esthetician for proper skin care or you want to tackle it from home, Thalgo has created a skin care line just for men which assists and compliments the typical daily grooming routine. It’s the bare minimum for your skin. We promise it’s not complicated and the results will be well worth your time:

1)   Cleanser – This doesn’t have to be a long ritual. Cleansing your skin in the shower will work just fine. But do cleanse. You need to remove all the dirt your skin has been exposed to from the environment and it’s especially important to cleanse if you have facial hair. Fine partials of dirt and food get stuck and can cause skin irritations and break outs. Thalgo Men Cleansing Gel eliminates toxins from your skin and sebum which causes acne. It also helps combat signs of aging.

2)   Shaving Gel – Shaving daily can cause skin irritation and dryness. It’s important to choose a shave gel which hydrates the skin to prevent this from happening.  Thalgo Men Shaving Gel is alcohol free and leaves the skin smoothe with no oily film. This gel contains Cephalipin which offers a bandage effect; encourages healing and reduces coagulation time by 50% in the event of a cut.

3)   After Shave Balm - Thalgomen After Shave Balm formula is instantly absorbed and its soothing and repairing active ingredients effectively ease skin irritations caused by shaving. The skin feels comfortable and supple with a pleasant feeling of lasting freshness. This product contains Eashave which soothes irritations; provides lasting freshness; repairs and hydrates the skin.

Caring for your skin doesn’t have to be tedious and in fact can be accomplished in a matter of minutes every day.  Preventative skin care is as important as corrective, so even if you aren’t interested in fine lines and wrinkles or anti-aging products, chances are you are interested in looking your best so this list gives you a good place to start.

What Every Esthetician Wants for Christmas

‘Tis the season to create holiday gift giving lists. Deciding who to buy for is actually sometimes harder than finding them a gift. When you are making you r list, you probably start with those closest to you and then broaden it to include service providers like your hairdresser, nail techs and esthetician. These are the people that you might see so often that sometimes you’d swear they actually are family. So what do you get for these people who have taken such good care of you all year long? Gift cards are often the choice, but it’s been done before. Same goes for candles, lotions and chocolates so you can just put those back on the shelf.

We’ve got the perfect gift for your esthetician that is easy to find and won’t break the bank. It’s a promise from you to finally invest in the skin care products she’s been asking you to use at home since the day you met her. Before you roll your eyes, think about it. She’s been after you to choose better skin care products every time you have seen her. Why? Because she cares. She wants you to feel good about your skin every time you look in the mirror. And you and your skin are a walking business card for her.  How you look is a direct reflection of her work and the more people notice you, the more opportunity she has for obtaining new business.

Your skin is a window to your true age and can be a secret keeper for you if you take proper care of it in between facials. The investment may seem daunting at first, but remember investing in YOU is always worth it and the products you have been buying at the drugstore just don’t have what your skin needs anyhow. To make the leap a little less scary here’s a list of products your esthetician wants you to use every day:

1)  A good cleanser – choose one that’s right for your skin type. There are cleansers for acne-prone skin as well as normal to dry. Talk with your esthetician about one for you. And remember you only need to cleanse at night (this is when your skin is in self-repair mode). The oils you naturally produce overnight will help to protect your skin all day long.

2)  An Antioxidant – Remember what your Mom used to say? An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Antioxidants shield your skin from damage caused by environmental hazards and helps correct the damage your skin has already sustained by free radicals. This is the most expensive piece of the skin care puzzle but quite possibly, the most important.

3)  Moisturizer- Not all moisturizers are the same. Ask your esthetician to help choose one that suits your age. If you are 30, use one for your age range, and ditto if you are in your 50s, etc. It’s important to use a cream that’s suitable for your age and also the season. If your climate changes with the seasons you may have to alter your moisturizer to to ramp up for colder, harsher weather.

4)  Eye Cream – We all need eye cream.  The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the body and, therefore, needs an “eye-specific” cream to be treated properly.  Whether you want to prevent fine lines and wrinkles or if you are looking to correct them, we need to use it twice a day without fail.

5) SPF – Whether you are 25 or 75, you need to use a SPF product to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays that are present even when it’s cloudy. These rays prematurely age the skin and are the most common cause of skin cancer.

That’s it. 5 products that will change the way that you age, protect your skin from the environment and prolong the positive results of all those facials you have been getting. Yes, it’s an investment but it will save you money on corrective skin care in the future.

Thalgo, MCeutic

2015 brought many new skin care trends and nuances but one area that became more popular this year was new skin care apps.  Thanks to technology, anyone with a smart phone can now download their favorite skin care app, create a profile, upload a pic, and poof, the app will provide suggestions for your skin care regimen. Cool? Yes. Accurate? We aren’t so sure. So many variables can infringe upon getting an accurate analysis here such as quality of the picture, quality of the smartphone camera, lighting, etc.  But all in all it’s a fun way to begin the education process for those new to skin care.

For those not so new and looking for more serious skin care, devices continued making a splash this year in the industry. Personal skin care devices utilizing sound frequencies and cleansing brushes for example, became popular in 2010 and are still being upgraded and re-introduced today. They promise a gentle cleansing with the ability to rid the face of topical dirt, freeing clogged pores and thus treating acne and skin congestion. The downside of these handhelds exfoliators:  they can be rough if used too frequently ultimately thinning the skin.

A popular device used in spas is micro current. Proven to improve fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate facial muscles, micro current is still a hip and effective way to combat aging and improve skin elasticity. Home use devices are trending but don’t deliver the same level of current and require more patience for noticeable improvement. Our take: stick with the pro’s. You will spend less time and get better results working with a spa.

Thalgo offers a technological treatment which also includes micro current called IBeauty.

This device combines 3 innovative technologies:

  • Sound Vibrations for an in-depth cleanse and exfoliation.
  • Sequential Ultrasound for skin detoxification, reactivation of cell metabolism and infusion of the active ingredients used during the treatment.
  • Radio Frequency which heats the skin tissue while delivering micro current to regenerate, plump and firm the skin

IBeauty was launched in early 2015 and has been a great success this for Thalgo year.

Red light therapy is no longer new in the device department but still very popular for its ability to stimulate collagen production and treat acne.  According to The Dermatology Review, “Red light therapy in dermatology was investigated as doctors noticed an increasing amount of patients who were immune to the normal antibiotic treatments used to get rid of acne.” While the use of red light therapy has become popular by dermatologists and spas, the jury is out as to whether at-home devices emit enough light to be effective. Our opinion: it’s best to let the professionals deliver this therapy.

While there’s no crystal ball to predict the exact skin care trends, devices, apps or products that will resonate with buyers in the coming year, one thing is for sure: new skin care products are always exciting. Thalgo recently introduced a new medically-inspired product range called MCeutic

The MCeutic line targets:

  • loss of radiance
  • uneven skin tone
  • rough micro surface
  • thick skin texture
  • dilated pores
  • localized imperfections
  • residual marks from past acne

This revolutionary Medi-cosmetic line featured in Spa Business, uses patented product Mesolift Marine, which accelerates self-regeneration for youthful looking, firm, radiant skin. Also developed with this line is the new treatment program called Renovation Radical. A series of 4 professional cosmetic treatments which have been dermatologist tested with 100% satisfaction in improved skin quality, reduced imperfections, refined skin texture, resulting in a clear and radiant complexion. A radical renovation in skin care indeed.

Evidence and history point to 2016 being a great year for more renovations in skin care and the spa industry in general. According to SkinInc magazine, “professionals are starting to feel the freedom and security afforded by a more stable economy, resulting in an exciting time in the spa industry.” This growth and excitement looks to be continuing which should make 2016 an thrilling year for new trends in skin care and the spa industry.

How Millennials View Skin Care

Nov 30, 2015 8:55:29 PM

Millennials and SKin Care

According to, millennials are those individuals born between 1977 and 2000. They make up a staggering 25% of the U.S. population, and are responsible for 21% of ALL consumer discretionary purchases. WOW. With that kind of influence and buying power, the beauty industry has found it necessary to sit up, take notice, and begin major marketing toward Gen Y’s.  But before they can do this successfully, they need to decide what will attract them and how to attract them quickly.

According to the Market Research Blog; “Millennials are establishing beauty and skincare habits and consumer patterns that are likely to persist throughout their lifetime. So, the companies and brands that win Gen Y consumers are likely to retain these consumers for the long term.” Skin care companies must market to millennials as heavily as they market anti-aging to older women because establishing brand trust early will pay off when millennials are ready for anti-aging, products which carry so much of modern skin care lines.

According to Women’s, 1 quarter of all millennials will make skincare decisions based on what they have read online. Any skincare company with a weak online presence will miss out on a plethora of opportunities here.  And Gen Y’s are not the only one’s looking online for skin care advice and product knowledge, many individuals 55 and over are searching online for skin care and taking special note of reviews. So again, an online presence, is no longer just a luxury, it’s a necessity. Still, skin care companies today need to think like millennials,  target them with an honest approach and if possible, an approach with a cause other than their skin. Millennials love supporting brands with an underlying cause for the greater good.

Thalgo’s approach to skin care is now and always has been overall wellness with the recognition that proper skincare begins from the inside out. And since the first cells originated from the ocean, this is where they began creating their brand.

Created from the sea, Thalgo has a duty to minimize its ecological footprint. Thalgo’s commitment to Nature is at the very core of the brand's DNA and guides all stages of our developments for Safe Beauty and a more beautiful nature.  Visit Thalgo, to find out more about this algae-based skin care line. Does Your Diet Really Impact Your Skin?

Nov 25, 2015 9:17:31 AM

You’ve heard the saying “you are what you eat,” but what does it really mean? Most of us know that the foods that we eat affect our sugar levels, cholesterol, and our weight. But how does what we eat affect our skin? Apparently this very question is at the heart of a long history of debates and studies that has lasted more than 50 years.

The truth is, what you eat matters as much to your skin as it does your waistline and you don’t need a study to tell you this; you can look in the mirror. When you eat foods high in sugar, they trigger the body to produce insulin, which is believed to instigate the production of acne-causing sebum. Eating high glycemic foods causes your body to experience a “sugar high” and then subsequently crash; doing this regularly can result in acne and tired, dull looking skin.

So what kinds of foods should you eat to promote healthy skin? According to author Joy Bauer, foods rich in antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Selenium, Beta Carotene, Zinc, and Omega 3 can help reduce the risk of acne and help your skin look healthy and radiant. Eating foods with a low glycemic index (GI) and foods rich in anti-oxidants isn’t as hard as you may think. For a list of foods rich in these antioxidants check out this article by Joy.

Acne isn’t a problem for teens alone. The number of people experiencing adult acne is on the rise too. Day spa magazine noted in their November 2015 Issue; millennials (ages 20-35) in particular are suffering from stress related and hormonal acne.  Luckily, millennials seem value a healthy lifestyle and are spending the time and money to take care of themselves.

Whether your skin condition is related to your diet, stress, hormones or all three, Thalgo can help. Through many years of research, they have developed a marine based nutritional line to help keep you healthy from the inside out.

Take a look at what they offer:

Herbal Teas and Infusion Drinks:

Designed to help with slimming, serenity, draining and light legs, these organic teas and infusions offer healing with natural exotic fruits and anti-oxidants.

Well Being:

Using seawater, these supplements hydrate and revitalize and detox the body and act as natural anti-stress agents.

Thalgo offers 9 different products designed to help control water weight, appetite control, and even changes from menopause.

With active ingredients like algae from the ocean, B5, B6, B8 and magnesium Thalgo offers products work intrinsically to improve the well-being of your skin, hair and nails.

So while the jury is still out and the pendulum is likely to continue to swing back and forth on this issue, there is one thing we do know for sure:  if you eat foods rich in anti-oxidants and take supplements to help the body stay healthy and lower stress, you will absolutely feel and look better. So why not start today!
