3 Secrets to Improving Your Cellulite

Cellulite is a condition that produces a dimpled appearance or orange peel effect on the surface of the skin. It is caused by a layer of fat under the skin that pushes against the connective tissue and beings to bulge. This bulging causes the unsightly appearance that is most commonly seen on the thighs and the buttocks. According to, “the cosmetic condition affects nearly 90% of women at some point during their lives, even women who are otherwise slender and fit.” Based on that number the odds of escaping cellulite are not in our favor but there are a few remedies that are considered effective.

1)    Creams or lotions: believe it or not, there are creams on the market that have proven results in helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite. It sounds like it’s too good to be true but clinical studies don’t lie. Take a look at Thalgo’s Intensive Correcting Cream for example, which fights and corrects the compacted (grade 3) cellulite-generating process at its source. This highly active cream features Thalgo-exclusive Oxy Active technology to help disperse pronounced cellulite. The skin’s resistance to unsightly dimples is reinforced, resulting in visibly smoother-looking skin.

2)    Scrubs: Although there are many options here, the one that has gotten the most positive response is the coffee scrub.  According to Women’s Health Magazine, “the caffeine and antioxidants in coffee are moderately effective to mitigate the appearance of cellulite in the short term. As a stimulant, the caffeine in coffee dilates blood vessels, which temporarily tones and tightens tissue. Plus, it increases circulation and reduces water retention, both of which may also help smooth the rumpled look of cellulite. The antioxidants in coffee may help to release toxins, which is not only helpful for cellulite, but for healthy skin in general.”

3)    Dry Brushing: Although it doesn’t sound convincing, the dry brushing technique has been a popular way to treat cellulite for awhile. explains: “In essence, dry brushing is a combination of exfoliation and massage that involves taking (brace yourselves) a dry brush and moving it over your body in slow, circular motions two to three times a week. The firm bristles of the brush give your skin a thorough exfoliation while the pressure helps to stimulate your circulation and, yep, lymphatic drainage, which in turn is supposed to help the body eliminate toxins.” While the the only investment here is time and a brush, beware that this technique can be rough on the skin, causing it to peel. Be sure to moisturize routinely to prevent this as much as possible. While the jury is still out on the effectiveness of dry brushing, one thing is for sure, your brushed body will surely be softer.

The Truth About Cellulite

May 19, 2016 8:23:17 PM

It’s time to stop sugar coating and be honest. Cellulite is the worst! It’s worse than worse, it’s horrendous. For many it’s considered one of the top ten most frustrating body issues, especially for women. And for some, it’s not a matter of weight or size, it’s actually genetics, now that’s not fair. So now that the hate fest has begun, lets talk about how to tackle stubborn cellulite because not everything on the market works.

According to, cellulite affects nearly 90% of women in their lifetime…90%! Let that sink in for a moment.

So what causes this evil condition? Cellulite is caused by tissue hypoxia, which is fancy way to say that the tissue beneath the skin is lacking oxygen.  Essentially fat deposits push through the tissue of the skin weakening the connective tissue, thus causing dimpling. The problem can be exacerbated by lack of exercise, muscle tone, exercise and poor circulation. And guess what, the condition worsens with age, so we should work to minimize the appearance sooner rather than later.

Believe it or not there are some natural home remedies that help manage cellulite.

1)  Topical Treatments - According to Top 10 Home Remedies,  apple cider vinegar mixed with water has been known to help as a topical treatment:  1 part vinegar and 2 parts water. Apply to the surface, rinse after 30 minutes.

2)  Detox – Drain the skin and body by drinking warm lemon water every morning when you wake up. This will help the organs function properly and reduce excess fluid in the body. Try ½ lemon squeezed into an 8 ounce mug.

3)  Dry Brushing – using a brush with natural bristles, work up from the legs toward the heart. There are countless helpful tutorials on Pinterest to help you learn the proper technique.

4)  Diet – Although genetics often plays a role in cellulite, diet can have a direct impact as well. Eating a diet rich in avocados, bell peppers and cucumbers can help combat the development of new cellulite.

We could go on and on with suggested home remedies. And there are many that are proven to have positive results. The bottom line is and always has been: eat right and exercise. And apply products that have proven results to correct cellulite, tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of dimpling.

Thalgo has created a line of slimming and firming products tested and proven to firm the deeper layers of skin where persistent cellulite exists, combating the appearance of skin slackening and redefining and re-sculpting the skin tissue. In fact, Dermascope Magazine awarded the Thalgo High Performance Firming Cream the Aestheticians Choice for 2016.
