As you may have already heard, 9-year-old Rachel Beckwith lost her life due to a 13-car pile up on Interstate 90 in Bellevue, Washington. Prior to the accident, Rachel had begun a charity for people in developing nations who are dying without clean and fresh water. Her mission was to raise $300 by her 9th birthday on June 12, 2011.

Here is her pledge:
On June 12th 2011, I'm turning 9. I found out that millions of people don't live to see their 5th birthday. And why? Because they didn't have access to clean, safe water so I'm celebrating my birthday like never before. I'm asking from everyone I know to donate to my campaign instead of gifts for my birthday. Every penny of the money raised will go directly to fund freshwater projects in developing nations. Even better, every dollar is "proved" when the projects are complete, and photos and GPS coordinates are posted using Google Earth. My goal is to raise $300 by my birthday, June 12, 2011. 1) When did Thalgo make the decision to change their formulas?

The company decided to apply a new formulation charter for the launch of our new cleansing line in September 2008. Taking into account the necessary development time, the decision was taken in September 2007. At that time, the market was already talking a lot about organic products and the necessity of changing the uses within the industry.
Not only for skincare, the world market has been changing, promoting a comeback to a more natural approach, and protecting the environment.

2) How was it decided which ingredients to omit from the formulae?

It was not easy to decide since a formula including marine ingredients is more difficult to keep stable than a formula including plant extracts. The media were very much against the preservatives, particularly parabens which are the most efficient ones in the market place.
Therefore, we have decided to stop using parabens as well as mineral oils, propylen glycol, OGM and ingredients from animal origin.

3) How was it decided to include new ingredients and why?

New ingredients are alternatives to those cancelled and remain from marine and vegetal origins. We carefully check with our supplier that they fulfill our new charter and only supply acceptable ingredients.

4) How has the Thalgo brand benefited?

The objective is to maintain the same efficiency using more "natural" ingredients. The benefit will be important in terms of image since none of our competitors except Pevonia are using this policy. In the salon industry, you have major organic brands on one side like Phyt's, Doc Hauschka, and Jurlique which have easy to use efficient formulas and on the other side, you have very small brands coming from dedicated organic shops which do not correspond to the expectations of our clientele in terms of use, smell and efficiency. There is space for a brand like Thalgo in between keeping its own standards but in a more natural way to meet the salon clientele expectations.

5) How have Thalgo customers benefited?

In terms of image and clientele perception; both the therapist and the end user feel safer with Thalgo using new preservatives and having a more environmental approach. The customers are ready to go organic while maintain the same level of quality and comfort of before. Thalgo delivers just that.

6) Will the entire range be converted to this new formulation charter?

Yes, our plan is to have the entire line converted to this more eco-friendly approach.

7) Please give some examples of sustainable development practices within the organization.

The Thalgo sustainable development policy is involving all the collaborators, whatever their position in the company, through a collective commitment:

1) Choosing priority raw materials with marine and or vegetal origins
2) Preserving the resources
3) Respecting the ecosystems
4) Managing and controlling our waste
5) Taking into account the feedback of our clients, therapists & end-users

Apart from the initiative of Thalgo to raise funds for an organization, the company has undertaken more internal actions like waste management by:

Here are some recommendations for the duration of the 4 week slimming- detox program.

General advise:
• Eat 3 meals a day, at regular intervals, making breakfast a priority.
• Eat a varied and balanced diet in reasonable quantities and make eating a pleasure!

I feel like we have been talking so much about slimming lets change the subject. I have heard from a few of you about the Oxygen line and it is having amazing reviews all over the web. And I received a Thalgo facial last week…thanks to the lovely Mariet- she suggested both the moisturizer and the spf fluid to me. So I took some samples home with me on Thursday and I feel in love with this item. I had run out of my collagen cream so it was time for a new PM moisturizer. I use a serum under this on a clean face but these are my results.
My skin looks rested and some of my uneven tone(mostly red)is reduced. I really like how rich the product goes on and how well moisturized my skin looks in the morning. And I break out from almost everything but I can say I do not have 1 new blemish. If anything my skin has cleared a bit. Which is amazing considering new products always cause me a bit of irritation in the beginning.
I will keep you posted in the fine line department as I am 33 the lines are not so pronounced yet….but with some time I do see effects in the common areas we all look to see positive change.

I’m going to list some product information so this is not just an opinion but science as well.

What is ECOCERT?
An inspection and certification body, ECOCERT was founded in 1991 on strong ethical values, inherited from the agrobiological community movement of the 1970s. In winning the support of actors and consumers, ECOCERT has become a benchmark in Organic certification across the world and certifies more than 70% of the producers in France. With respect for mankind and its environment as its credo, ECOCERT adopts a global vision in this certification process, checking different points such as:

- Control of the active ingredients selected => to give preference to natural ingredients and Organically farmed ingredients that conserve the environment

- Control of the items of packaging chosen => to promote the use of highly recyclable materials and avoid finishings that compromise the use-by date of the contents

Are Organic cosmetics tested on animals?

Does an Organically certified cosmetic product keep less well than a traditional cosmetic product?
The use-by date for organically certified cosmetic products is generally 6 months. Spots are initially light beige in color and darken gradually if they are not treated or protected from the sun. All that being said, I want to do a little research on behalf of our reader. Because age spots, hyper pigmentation and even hypo pigmentation(lighter spots in the skin)hit near and dear to my heart. I have freckles from head to toe. And though I was only the age of 2 years when they started to become a part of my personality-they were then and still are Sun Damage. If you look at my skin under a woods lamp my face, my whole face turns brown (scary!). Sun protection is one of those things, if I could teach all my clients 1 thing it is this simple. It doesn’t matter sunny, cloudy, snowy, foggy, please wear it. And put it on your kids! Did you know you can reduce the chance of your child developing skin cancer in their life by 50% if you avoid any sun burns until the age of 6. It will be the least expensive, best long term investment for your skin, and anti aging, as well as possibly the whole health of your skin, you can make in your life.

But I will step off my soap box now in hopes that one of you will go out and buy a Thalgo Sun Screen, or some sort of UVA and UVB protection and use it!

Since I plan to do more research on this subject I will keep you posted on my findings.

So we are in the process of building our staff page- but to give you a brief background, a co worker and myself our going to guinea pig ourselves, for the better of women(and man)kind on Thalgo slimming products. We have had such a popular response to our postings we decided to take it to the next level.

Elibet (my co-worker and our beloved Office Manager) just had a baby 2 months ago and is really struggling with the baby weight. After all, this is not Hollywood- we do not have personal trainers, plastic surgeons and endless wealth for an easier fix(don’t get me wrong, if we had access to those things we would use them). What we do have is access to amazing products we have the utmost faith in, but it still takes us a consorted effort to implement a new regime.
